What makes a castle build
There is no verified universal best build for Wanderburg in this pre-launch snapshot. The useful comparison is between a focused mortar setup and a melee-oriented captain setup, both documented in historical videos. Treat them as examples of how choices fit together, while an Early Access winner remains 待确认.
The official Steam description confirms modular combinations and between-run unlocks for vehicles, artifacts and captains. Austin Wood's GamesRadar+ hands-on, published on February 25, 2026, describes the Next Fest Demo through chassis, commander, mounted weapons and upgrade choices. He also reports gold and artifacts during a run, making a build more than the weapon selected at the beginning. That account explains the layers you can compare, but it does not establish a strongest combination.
For a useful comparison, name the vehicle, captain, main weapon and upgrades separately. This is a way to describe your setup, not a claim that every combination follows an identical formula. It prevents a strong-looking weapon clip from standing in for the captain and upgrade decisions that accompanied it. Artifact stacking rules and a complete Early Access equipment catalogue remain 待确认.

A focused mortar example
CG Plays published a mortar-focused run on December 17, 2025, before the later standalone Demo period. In the recorded commentary, the creator describes a dedicated mortar setup at 00:00:33, favors damage upgrades at 00:03:54–00:04:00 and discusses further mortar investment at 00:05:19. Automatic subtitles sometimes misrecognize mortar as Mordor, so the corrupted spelling is not treated as an equipment name. The exact build number is 待确认, so this is neither a Demo 1.5 recipe nor an Early Access recommendation.
The practical question raised by this example is whether an offered upgrade reinforces the weapon your setup already emphasizes. That question is more specific than choosing something because a video title calls the result powerful. Follow the choices described in the commentary to understand the mortar focus, but do not infer a damage formula or optimal upgrade order from them. The video's gold-record claim belongs to that creator's run and is not a general performance benchmark.

A melee-focused Demo example
EagleUkraine's February 28, 2026 Demo video provides a different reference: a drunk-captain setup with melee-oriented upgrades. The recorded commentary identifies the approach at 00:00:11 and describes choosing improvements related to melee damage and enemies at full health around 00:02:47–00:02:55. This is a conditional damage example, not evidence that those conditions apply to every weapon or every enemy encounter. Its exact patch and the corresponding Early Access effects remain 待确认.
When reading this example, keep the damage condition attached to the recommendation. A bonus discussed for an enemy at full health should not be silently rewritten as a permanent increase throughout an encounter. Likewise, a melee-focused selection should not become advice for the mortar setup simply because both titles advertise successful results. The title's one-shot and boss-count claims have not been independently reproduced under the same conditions.

How to compare the examples
Use the mortar run to study weapon focus and the melee run to study conditional bonuses. Those are different decision problems, so the footage does not support placing one above the other in a tier list. A meaningful personal comparison would keep the game version and starting configuration visible and separate damage results from survival outcomes. This is a comparison framework, not a tested route or a promised improvement in win rate.
